Title:

L’IDENTITÉ MAROCAINE ET LE CROISEMENT CULTUREL JUDÉO-ARABO-AMAZIGH DANS LE ROMAN « LE GOLEM DU VIEUX MELLAH » (2022) DE AZIZ BOUACHAMA

Title in English:

MOROCCAN IDENTITY AND THE JUDEO-ARABO-AMAZIGH CULTURAL CROSSOVER IN THE AZIZ BOUACHAMA’S NOVEL "THE GOLEM OF THE OLD MELLAH" (2022)

Abstract:

This article deals with the Judeo-Arabo-Amazigh cultural intersection in the novel 'The Golem of the Old Mellah by Aziz Bouachama. It highlights a euphoric symbiosis between these three components of Moroccan identity, which stands out for its uniqueness, diversity, and richness in civilizational, cultural, linguistic, and intercultural dimensions. The relationship that reconnects the narrator-character with the Jew Laaziz Ben Guigui serves as a good example of this coexistence and cohabitation linking Jew and Muslim (Amazigh and Arab). The text also emphasizes, on one hand, the phenomenon of religious fanaticism that easily influences and manipulates naive minds, and on the other hand, the figure of the moqadem who embodies an ambivalent identity; this protector who seems unable to contribute to the safety of the neighborhood, especially since the harm comes from his own son.
