Title:

ANGLICISMOS EN LA PRENSA DIGITAL ESPAÑOLA CONTEMPORÁNEA

Language of Publication:

Spanish

Title in English:

ANGLICISMS IN THE CONTEMPORARY SPANISH DIGITAL PRESS

Abstract:

This article deals with the presence and frequency of anglicisms in the Spanish digital press, focusing on unadapted terms taken directly from English. A body of articles published in eight sections of the Spanish news portals El Periódico, Okdiario and 20 Minutos was analysed. The quantitative analysis focused on the frequency of articles containing anglicisms and the number of anglicisms in each section, while the qualitative analysis addressed their typology. The results reveal the existence of anglicisms in all the areas considered, but with varying frequency. Thus, technology, culture, television, and sports proved to be the most favourable environments for the integration of anglicisms.
