EXAME CRITICO EM QUESTAO

Title in English:

Critical Examination in Question

Abstract:

To define and describe the poetic discourse through a double perspective, diachronic and synchronic, implicitly lead to a formal approach of the poetic act. Thus, two questions stand out: ''What does structure mean?'' and ''What is poetry?'' From this point of view, one can notice a varied and contradictory range of critical opinions. There are also common views, like those of the ''formalists'' influenced by ''Russian formalists'' and mainly by Roman Jakobson's Principles of general Linguistics. Studying it thoroughly, we can notice an evolution which is not totally favorable to poetry. Jakobson's first studies, when he ''was conquering'' Europe, show a clear interest and a refined perception regarding the artistic phenomenon, in general, and poetry, in particular.
